Books to Read After Watching Off Campus
36 million watchers tuned in to giggle, cry and scream along to Prime Videos adaptation of the Off Campus series by Elle Kennedy in the first 12 days. Many of those will be devoted readers who have eagerly waited for years or recent lovers of the books, whilst others will have walked the halls of Briar University for the first time with the TV Show. Well, either way, here are some absolute must reads to cure your Garrett Graham hangover.
Icebreaker by Hannah Grace
Perhaps a little predictable, it would be foolish for me to talk about hockey romances without mentioning Icebreaker by Hannah Grace. With over 1 million ratings on Goodreads, Icebreaker has definitely earnt itself a spot in the ice hockey romance hall of fame.
Unlike the other recs on this list, Icebreaker follows a hockey captain and a figure skater. Anastasia is completely and utterly focused on a spot on Team USA’s figure skating team, with her scholarship at Maple Hills, a huge step in achieving that goal. Nate is focused on being the best captain, with his skates permanently attached to his feet. But after the two are forced together because of a mishap on campus, can they put their differences, and pride, aside? Spoiler alert: absolutely not.
Collide by Bal Khabra
After The Deal, Collide was actually one of the first sports romances that I feel head over heels in love with. The dual POV, the witty humour and the relatable characters, Collide is full of all the charm and bicker turned banter a romance reader could ever want!
Ambitious honours student Summer has dreams of becoming a sports psychologist, with a burning hatred for hockey. Aiden is the ice hockey team captain, with a very relaxed approach to life. Their paths are pushed together on a student research project, when really, they want to get as far away from each other as possible. Summer hates his blase nature, whilst Aiden cannot understand why Summer plans every day of her life. But as the two let their guards down, they realise that perhaps their assumptions about each other, and love, are completely wrong.
Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid
It is crazy to me the impact that hockey romance has had on TV culture this year. Off Campus and Heated Rivalry have rapidly becoming cultural phenomenons, at least in the circles I browse on the internet, and if you haven’t dived into the world of Game Changers by Rachel Reid, you absolutely should!
Hockey player Shane Hollander is focused with a spotless reputation. Nothing stands in his way from achieving want he wants- especially his biggest rival that he absolutely loathes. Ilya Rozanov is cocky, talented and has made a career on his rivalry with Shane on the ice. Off the ice, however, their secret hookups and blazing tension isn’t enough but keeping their relationship out of the public domain might just be their biggest challenge yet.
The Import Slot by Alys J. Clarke
If you are looking to dive into an indie hockey romance, you absolutely must start with The Import Slot by Alys J. Clarke. The first in the Elite Hockey series set in the UK (which as a UK romance reader is actually difficult to come by!), this spicy friends to lovers had me wanting to literally jump into the pages!
This book follows the romance of Ryan, an experienced NHL player and Jenna, who has been surrounded by ice hockey her entire life. When Ryan is called to play in the UK as a favour for his brother, he is ready to return to Canada as soon as the season is over. Jenna knows hockey boys and has sworn off dating for good. But as their paths collide, perhaps their views on love are destined to change.
